fighting for some space
stainless steel balls, clear acrylic, mechanical components, electric motor, power cable, monofilament line, stainless steel screws (base not included).
the artwork is a machine that explores the transition from order to chaos through motion and sound. the stainless steel balls can be seen as individuals confined within a well defined boundary – the circular disk. the disk follows a completely ordered repetitive motion and gives the impression that it can fully control the behaviour of the individuals inside. however, it is in fact impossible to control them completely. they experience infinite degrees of freedom, but still only within a restricted area. this vanity process is expressed as an undefined mess of cracking sounds.
